If you’re over 65 we can visit you to discuss your caring situation in the comfort of your own home. We can discuss any assistance you may need – for example, you may want information on benefits, disability aids and equipment, housing matters, DIY and gardening support or other services. Or you may want information on the illness or condition of the person you support, and the chance to talk to someone about how you are feeling. We appreciate that every caring situation is different, and that you may have lots of questions you want to ask. We can visit you in your own home between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm Monday to Thursday.
Once we have visited you and identified your main concerns we will provide you with a tailored information pack with key details and useful contacts.
Visits are done by staff or trained volunteers (who are all vetted beforehand e.g. Criminal Records Bureau checked) who treat your discussion in the strictest confidence.
Please note: this is an information service whereby we listen to you, identify your main information needs and provide the information you need. It is not a befriending service. If you feel you would benefit from befriending we will happily tell you about our Telephone Befriending service for older carers. We can also put you in touch with any befriending visiting schemes covering your area.
When you ring or email us, we will take some basic details about you and the person you care for.
We will then ring you back within 5 working days to make an appointment for the home visit and tell you the name of who is going to be visiting you. Visits take place within 3 weeks of your initial request although we aim to see you as soon as possible – it just depends on the level of demand as we are a small team.
