“Coming to the group helped me to understand what has happened to my stepdad. The group has helped me so much and to feel happier about what has happened though I will never forget him”

GIFTS (Group Intervention for Therapeutic Services) offers specialist group and one-to-one support for children, young people and their families who have been affected by the death of a parent, relative, friend or other significant person.

Bereavement can have a huge impact on both the emotional health and wellbeing and psychological development of children and young people. Often families struggle to ‘cope’ and support each other at times of crisis, and they need a little help along the way.

CANW’s GIFTS group is facilitated by qualified, experienced therapeutic staff who support groups for up to eight children and young people. These groups provide an opportunity for children and young people to express their emotions and to voice their fears and concerns through letter writing, creating memory jars and boxes, balloon releasing and creating an emotional first aid kit.
