Become a Foster Carer Becoming a foster carer is neither a simple nor straightforward process. We ask you to consider what this role entails before pursuing your interest.  Quite often looked after children and young people can be, angry, they will be upset, they will require a caring, consistent and reliable person to make a difference at a difficult time in their lives.  We find that committed people succeed at the task with our support. The qualities we are looking for from our foster carers are time, energy and enthusiasm in abundance, patience, a sense of humour and a commitment to putting the needs of vulnerable children and young people first. If approved as a foster carer, Child Action Northwest will help you to find these qualities within yourself. We will support you when the work gets demanding and we will offer you regular training to help you to develop the skills the role requires. We will also ensure that you are adequately rewarded for the work you do and we will recognise this and celebrate your achievements.  But the biggest difference that you can make is to the life of a young person because to Child Action Northwest, every child does matter. To become a foster carer you don’t need to have any formal qualifications, or even own your own home. You do need to have a spare bedroom and plenty of energy to help a child or young person in crisis.  We are looking for people from a range of backgrounds, cultures and religions who share our vision to help children and young people in need. All applicants will be assessed on an individual basis.
